Chris Pierson (42), Sioux Falls SD

Team: Okoboji Expedition Co.

-Jeff Skalbeck (49), Spirit Lake IA

“Favorit ride is any ride with friends. I grew up playing high school

sports in the “212 Conference”, so this is a return to my roots

(even though it’s in SD instead of MN)”

-James Webb (43), Spirit Lake IA

“Great Cause. Epic Ride. Lets Roll.”

-Cenna Vaeli (46), Spirit Lake IA

“25th year of riding.  Shop owner. Bike Fit expert. Love people on bikes.”

Entering the Gut Check to see if I am crazy enough to finish it.”

Jay Stevens, (43) Littleton CO

“The Gut Check supports a good cause and I wanted to see if I could

do it.  First year riding road bike.”

Justin Pfeiffer (30), Sioux Falls SD

“I’ve been riding for 5 years. Decided to ride the Gut Check to see if I could do it,

then found out my wife’s hairdresser has Crohn’s. Once I learned more about

the disease, my reason has changed.”

Peter Reynen

2-Person Relay:

Team: Bismarck Epic Sports

Leon Essler (55), Bismarck ND

“My early years I grew up riding bike while delivering newspapers.

A dozen years passed and then I got back into running and cycling

and have never looked back since.  My department managers wife has

Crohn’s Disease.”

          David Ostlund (48), Minot ND

“I’ve been riding for about 25 years, mostly fast recreational riding,

some racing and touring. My favorite ride is when some friends and

I go to Red Lodge MT to ride the Beartooth Pass.  I’m entering “Gut Check”

for the challenge.”

Team: Dunlap&Tau

Mike Dunlap (50), Sioux Falls SD

          “I’ve been riding for 16 years after a 20 year running career (I ran a 2:18 marathon

in 1983). Favorite ride is Needles Highway in the Black Hills of SD. I’m entering

the Gut Check as preparation for a possible solo effort in the future---only going

half the distance this year.  Or this could be a possible mid-life crisis!  I just

love to ride and like a challenge.”

Phil Tau (46), Sioux Falls SD

“I have been riding a road bike for 5 years and love it.  The best times are on the

Tour de Kota and the Saturday morning group ride with the hammers.  I love the

thrill of competition and to do it for a great cause is a special bonus.”
