	Changing Our Practice Act Some ATCs in South Dakota may not completely understand the reasons for bringing legislation forward to assist in opening up and changing portions of our practice act. It is important that we are all on the same page on this matter. Listed below are 5 goals we are working towards: 1. Update the practice act to reflect current terminology, supported by the NATA and NATABOC related to: Patient population and scope of practice. 2. Ensure public protection while improving access for the wider number of participating “Athletes” in the state, particularly those in rural SD. 3. Update the practice to reflect current and future job setting opportunities of Athletic Training, not limit job setting responsibilities for Athletic Trainers. 4. Provide opportunities for Athletic Trainers educated in the state to serve the state of South Dakota, again particularly rural SD. 5. Build and/or strengthen alliances with other medical and allied health professionals in the state in an effort to better and more efficiently serve the public.
