The South Dakota Athletic Trainers Associations’ (SDATA) “Iron Will” Award serves to honor those outstanding high school athletes that have successfully returned to competition following a serious athletic injury. It also serves to honor the certified athletic trainer who played a major role in working with the athlete.
One male and one female athlete will be honored by the SDATA each year at the South Dakota High School All-Star Games. The athlete and certified athletic trainer who worked with the athlete will receive and engraved plaque.
CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION:
Nominations are open to all injured high school athletes
from
1. The athlete must have sustained a serious injury that forced him/her out of competition
2. The athlete must have been diagnosed and initially treated by a physician.
3. The athlete must have successfully completed a rehabilitation program.
4. The athlete must have had some direct contact with a certified athletic trainer during his/her injury, either with initial evaluation or during rehabilitation.
5. The athlete must have successfully returned to high school competition following the above-mentioned rehabilitation program.
6. The athlete’s injury must have occurred during an athletic practice or competition during their high school tenure.
DEADLINE:
The nominations for both the male and female high school athletes need to be received by the “Iron Will” Award Chairperson by June 1 (see nomination form).
The female winner will be announced during the half time of
the girl’s basketball game and the male winner will be announced during the
half time of the boy’s basketball game at the South Dakota High School All-Star
games in July in
